My Thoughts on the Boox Go Color 7 Gen 2

Recently I got my hands on the Boox Go Colour 7 Gen 2, it seemed the perfect combination of colour e-reader and a notebook so I can handwrite my reviews and convert to text, rather than typing them up from handwritten notes. I have been using for a little over a month so I thought I would note down my thoughts.

Boox e-readers are technically Android tablets with e-ink screens, as opposed to LCD/OLED etc that you find on regular android or apple tablets. This gave me the freedom of downloading any app on the Google Play Store, meaning that I can have the kindle app to access my kindle library, Kobo app to access those books, Library books using Borrowbox, Goodreads app, Bookbeat, audible. I refrain from social media apps, but that’s so I don’t get distracted.

Of course there is a slight trade-off for this flexibility. Using the e-ink centre to get things looking the best, they might take a little getting used to, and it’s not as intuitive as kindle and kobo’s straight out the box settings, and you have to set it on each different app. However, the Boox Go remembers this so once you’re sorted, that’s it. Personally, it’s worth the trade off, but I can understand some might find this off putting when first getting the device, especially if used to other e-readers.

The notebook feature is good, it recognises my handwriting well, and while I am sure the Remarkable and possibly the Kndle Scribe have better writing experiences, they are both much bigger (good for writing, but fits in less bags) and double the price – for reference, I am using the Kindle Colorsoft Scribe releasing in 2026 as the current kindle scribe is black and white e-ink, though even that is still substantially more than the Boox Go Colour 7 Gen 2. I have added a matt screen protecter which made things even better for writing and protects the screen, so well worth the £14 investment. I like the different templates available so I can have grid paper, lined, plain, dot grid or a to do list, and I can import my own as well. I’ve got a little bullet journal going on there and it’s fab.

Overall, I am very happy with the Boox Go Color 7 Gen 2. It has buttons (another must for me, I mourned when Amazon got rid of the Kindle Oasis), notebooks, and I get to keep access to all my books across all the apps that I use. Pricey at around £280 including the stylus, but for the features, I think worth it and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others looking for a new ereader and looking to branch out from a Kindle.
