    Monthly Challenge – October 2016
    M

So it’s the end of September, I haven’t quite managed the 8 books I aimed for. I was on schedule for it, but in the last few days I’ve had some bad news and so I didn’t feel like reading ‘Me Before You’ at this moment in time, so will try and sneak it in next month. I have started a novella which I may finish today, so I might just make the full 8. Anyway I’m still pretty happy with my month with 7 reads, so I can’t complain too much!

Here are the books I’ve Selected for October’s theme of Autumn and Halloween, which means Cosy reads and Thrillers. Thrown a couple of Christmas ones as Christmas reads are always cosy reading, and it might inspire me to start my christmas shopping!! I’ve also noticed that all the actual covers of the books are all blue/green based, which isn’t exactly a cosy colour!

Book Club Book – Mystery until near the end of the month!

Miracle on 5th Avenue by Sarah Morgan (Released 20th October) – Loved the first two in this series, and this focuses on Eva, who is my favourite character of the three leading ladies so I’m even more excited

Hopeless romantic Eva Jordan loves everything about Christmas. Even if she is spending it alone housesitting a spectacular Fifth Avenue apartment. What she didn’t expect was to find the penthouse still occupied by its gorgeous–and mysterious–owner.

Bestselling crime writer Lucas Blade is having the nightmare before Christmas. With a deadline and the anniversary of his wife’s death looming, he’s isolated himself in his penthouse with only his grief for company. But when the blizzard of the century leaves Eva snowbound in his apartment, Lucas starts to open up to the magic she brings…This Christmas, is Lucas finally ready to trust that happily-ever-afters do exist?

Blood Ties by Sophie Mckenzie – I’ve heard good things about Sophie’s other books and this book sounds interesting and different to what I’d normally read.

When Theo discovers the father he thought died when he was a baby is still alive, he’s determined to find him. The clues lead him to lonely Rachel, who has problems of her own, including parents who compare her unfavourably to her long-dead sister. But when Rachel and Theo are attacked by men from RAGE – the Righteous Army against Genetic Engineering – they are rescued by strangers and taken to meet a mysterious figure who leads them to make startling discoveries about their identities, which will affect their past, present, and future in dramatic and life-altering ways…

How I Lost You by Jenny Blackhurst – This sounds good, and Jenny’s new book is out now on ebook, so I need to play catch-up

My name is Emma Cartwright. Three years ago I was Susan Webster, and I murdered my twelve-week-old son Dylan

I have no memory of what happened but you believe what your loved ones, your doctor and the police are telling you, don’t you? But if you can’t remember what happened, how can you be sure that they are telling the truth?

And if there was the smallest chance your son was alive, wouldn’t you do anything to get him back? If there was the smallest chance your son was alive, what would you do to get him back?

Mistletoe on 34th Street by Lisa Dickenson – Loved ‘You Had Me At Merlot’ earlier this year, so this is one of the Christmas books I’m most excited for.

Olivia has never experienced a snow-covered, ‘traditional’ Christmas before. Having grown up in a family that chose winter sun over decking the halls, she’s not sure what all the fuss is about. So when she and her colleagues are stranded in New York after a work trip, Olivia is perfectly happy spending the holiday season in the Big Apple.

Jon, Olivia’s friend, on the other hand is desperate to get home in time for his big family get-together. Nevertheless, determined to make the best out of the situation, he sets out to show Olivia how enchanting Christmas in New York can be. And when handsome New Yorker Elijah is added to the mix, could the magic of the season finally be working its charm on Olivia? As 25 December draws closer, Olivia suddenly finds herself with a decision to make: who does she really want to kiss under the mistletoe this Christmas?

A Song For Tomorrow by Alice Peterson (Released 9th February 2017) – I was so excited when I received this book, I know its not out till February 2017, but I cannot wait!

Tom fell in love with Alice the moment he saw her. He realises that being with her will not be easy, but she is a force of nature, a burst of sunlight in his otherwise ordinary world.

Some people might look at Alice and think she has everything, but Alice knows she is not like other women. Her life is complicated, unpredictable, difficult. Alice does not like pity. All she wants to do, has ever wanted to do, is sing.

Alice has been told not to follow her dreams. So has Tom. But when fate has already dealt a tough hand, it’s time to stop listening to everyone else and only follow their own hearts.

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena – Another novel that makes me really curious as to what is going to happen.

Your neighbour told you that she didn’t want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn’t stand her crying.

Your husband said it would be fine. After all, you only live next door. You’ll have the baby monitor and you’ll take it in turns to go back every half hour.

Your daughter was sleeping when you checked on her last. But now, as you race up the stairs in your deathly quiet house, your worst fears are realized. She’s gone.

You’ve never had to call the police before. But now they’re in your home, and who knows what they’ll find there.

The Easy Way Out by Steven Amsterdam (Released 3rd November) – This novel sounds emotional but with a bit of quirkiness to it.

Evan’s job is to help people die.

Evan is a nurse – a suicide assistant. His job is legal – just. He’s the one at the hospital who hands out the last drink to those who ask for it.

Evan’s friends don’t know what he does during the day. His mother, Viv, doesn’t know what he’s up to at night. And his supervisor suspects there may be trouble ahead.

As he helps one patient after another die, Evan pushes against the limits of the law – and his own morality. And with Viv increasingly unwell, his love life complicated, to say the least, Evan begins to wonder who might be there for him, when the time comes.
