Rachale's Reads

It Girl by Nic Tatano

I had never read a book by Nic Tatano before, after hearing lots of good things about his books, I delved into this one, and was instantly glad I did. The plot sounded exactly what I like in a book, fun, and romance.

The book was very smooth, I could have easily read this in one sitting. Also bonus points for setting it in NYC, my favourite place on earth, Veronica fits incredibly well into the vibe of New York, and it was the perfect fit.

Veronica Summers was a very funny character, her inner voice made me laugh out loud at times and her snarky speech that she makes while attempting to get fired had me smiling, as well as the fictional audience of the TV show. She is incredibly career focused, and you can see she clearly has a passion for journalism. However I did find at times that she looked down on some forms of journalism that she finds isn’t the hard hitting style that she prefers. She is still completely likable though but no one is perfect and it was a nice change to read a character that annoyed me a tiny (and I do mean tiny) bit. I loved the dynamic between Veronica and her friend and co-anchor Scott, their scenes were a joy to read.

The leading men in this book are as wonderful as you would expect them to be from this type of book. I think overall Dexter wins overall, I loved his personality and how Veronica and Dexter tried to one-up each other constantly. That said I couldn’t help but picture Bradley Cooper when reading about Veronica’s dance partner (who shares his first name) so it was hard to decide for a while!

This book proves that I waited far too long to read one of Nic Tatano’s books. It’s oh so readable, funny with a dash of glamour, a great read!
